Also released in 1984 was Eurythmics' soundtrack album 1984 (For the Love of Big Brother). Virgin Films had contracted the band to provide a soundtrack for Michael Radford's modern film adaptation of George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four. Radford later said that the music had been "foisted" on his film against his wishes, and that Virgin had replaced most of Dominic Muldowney's original orchestral score with the Eurythmics soundtrack (including the song "Julia", which was heard during the end credits). However, the record was presented as "music derived from the original score of Eurythmics for the Michael Radford film version of Orwell's 1984". Eurythmics charged that they had been misled by the film's producers as well, and the album was withdrawn from the market for a period while matters were litigated[citation needed]. The album's first single, "Sexcrime (Nineteen Eighty-Four)", was a top 5 hit in the UK, Australia and across Europe, and a major dance hit in the United States, but its supposedly suggestive title (actually taken from the "Newspeak" phrase used in Orwell's book) resulted in many U.S. pop radio stations refusing to play the track.

interestingly, ironically and as would be expected of big brother, history has actually been rewritten NOW: the apple itunes store does not mention the existence of this album or even the single. they do have a cover of a cover in a catalogue of 80s remixes, but in the history all the eurythmics' releases, it does not exist.

i started thinking i would grab 5 of my favorite songs. i obviously lost control of myself and began archiving almost everything. there is about twice as much non computer based music and hours of field recordings that i want to dig through. i also want to find time to gradually work on mixing and cutting some of these recordings. i will have to select far fewer to do that. if you have any particular songs you want me to put together or work on, just let me know so i can narrow this project down and get started. it's not really my thing to plan any of this or rework any songs as if they are drafts. nothing is finalized. versions grow from versions and alterations. they are different sounds. this is a lot of my friends' stuff too. you may hear yourself on here, depending on who you are and where you were while i was recording.

the field recordings that i am talking about are not on here yet. i will post them.....when i get around to listening to them all and find a few good ones. right now i know there are some that were recorded at the brothers of derek and leslie talking after they had not seen each other for a very long time. another is of new years eve at my place and people gathering in the dining room to melt candles. another is over hearing people at lisa's radial cafe during breakfast. others are myself and bridget talking and meditating. as you may imagine, there are many hours to sort through and nothing has any labels.

anyway, i will try to explain what each of these albums is in some way:

1 - FL Studio - these are songs i made, mostly in frooty loops. i was trying out a lot of the features and thinking about robots and warping and outerspace a lot. i was also quite paranoid at the time(2003-2006), but gradually chilled out. mostly crappy dance music.

2 - Mystic Robot (2006ish)- a gathering of friends recorded in my brother's bed room in my mom's house on a computer mic with a couple glass bottles, an acoustic guitar, a doumbek drum (sp?) , a tambourine, and maybe a few other things scattered through out like pots and pans. mostly poking fun at indy kids if i remember correctly.

5 - Reconstituded Cooter - (2008) My most recent album to date and also very highly acclaimed. all i do is listen to metal now. cheesey filters liberally spreaded throughout. a little dance at the end for some fun. i had, previous to this, been recording stereo, playing out through an amp, and playing guitar with through that amp with a flanger pedal and another amp with COSM reproductions of amps from the 50s to now and on board tremolo, chorus, flanger, phaser. delay reverb gain and a fab overdrive pedal. with three pickups with three controls, two pedals and multiple recordings with me, i decided to play with myself. i just got an electric sitar guitar and soon will find out how that mixes with everything.

the language of the artist is one that exchanges the "verbal" sign for a "visual" sign. I do not want to imply that the visual sign is not linguistic, because it is--indeed, the linguistic sign and the visual sign exist simultaneously, just as "thought" and "language" exist. Here, linguistic implies language--of all types. "Verbal" implies language of the word-type, while "visual" implies the language of sight, where "word" is replaced with "image."

Imagination, then, is like the re-thinking of previously understood signs--linguistic and visual alike. The one imagining is creating a reality that only they can fully understand. We call this "imaginary" because it [may or may not] [does not necessarily need to] resemble recognizable, previous signs in the form of symbols, metaphors, reconstructions...but is not entirely palpable to those "outside" the imagination.

If shared, the imaginer must acknowledge outright that he or she is aware of the non-consensual nature of their construction. We must make it clear, somehow, that we are aware of the imagine d's non-"realness." Otherwise, we are "crazy," since the imagined does not match up with the language of our community. {similarly, the crazy person may, in some cases, claim "imagination" to resolve their linguistic conflict}

If the imaginer were to say that their reality was real, we would, perhaps, call her crazy--but we might also say that she was trying to impose her idea of reality upon us (to some degree) and we would cite "consensual reality" as the reason for her supposed, inherent craziness, since we often consider "reality" [the product of thought/language] to be consented upon by the community. However, our "consensual reality" is actually not consensual, but imposed.

There is a celebration of stamps of some sort. More maturing human beings morphing into idol worshippers if you ask me. If our clan keeps encouraging each other to turn, then the future of humanity is doomed.

A woman who taught me Italian came in and didn't recognize me when we talked. I didn't make an effort to remind her because I liked to feel like I was lurking in the shadows while she was none the wiser and talking to someone who wasn't me. Then she was gone.

I have been thinking about the future a lot. Not the future like 3008, but the future like 241,578,351. What do you think will exist then?

I envision cartoons of amoeba and cellular activity taking place.

I was at a fish fry at this temple people called "The Holy Name" yesterday. At this ritual all sorts of cellular organisms swarm and collect on each other. The cells are drawn to food to sustain themselves so they work together to obtain their nutrients. There was a very effective collaborative phagocytosis effort, but there was still fish left. Planets each themselves, something eats planets. Something else must eat that something.

i like to pass the time by misappropriating animate and inanimate objects into taxonomic divisions.

for instance, right now i am trying to come up with the binomial title for the people eaten by the homo floresiensis.

i realized that as i rise above kingdoms and domains, philosophical disputes are auto-generated, and though they don't inherently exist and are pursued by no one, i find a pressure to desist.

everyone here is white trash at the library and theres a monster like cave dweller black woman here who looks like she'll latch on to me and suck my blood and then sleep all day and stay awake at night. i guess she looksl ike a vampire bat.

"Where are all my old friends, have they all got the bends?" At least I have new friends. Such as contributors to this blog. As of now I vastly prefer it to Myspace blogs, it has much more visual stimulation going on. (Thanks to all you artist people.) Besides, the mere thought of logging on to Myspace gives me a feeling of nauseous dread lately, perhaps because it's full of faces that disappeared on me. Yet, somehow I'm still gravitated towards it, I have to look. It's like a car crash. More like several car crashes simultaneously.

I don't feel like doing anything creative/productive. Nothing that involves thinking today. Luckily, I had an assignment to do a bunch of data entry earlier. It was so unbelievably soothing. My uncontrolled stream of nagging thoughts nearly stopped, for a few hours. Too much time to think at a museum. Yesterday I was trapped in the No Man's Land of the pavilion...I think about five people came in, for about five minutes, so I decided to write poetry all day. It was Valentine's Day after all. Finally I got to go home and cry. What a little emo beotch I've become. Perhaps when it gets warm I'll stop being a hermit, but not yet.
